JONNIE ROCKIT GUITARIST

August 20, 2007

Jonnie turned 15 on June 1st, 2007.

Jonnie Montoya had his first violin and piano lessons lessons at the age of 3. His 1st piano recital was when he was 3 1/2 shortly after that he discovered the synthesizer and then the guitar which ultimately became his passion. He used to come out in to our home studio and go in the tracking room to play with the guitars, basses and drums. Jonnie has always had a natural ability and is good on drums still. His timing is pretty solid considering he isn't a drummer. He does have excellent timing as you will hear on his live demos.

Jonnie began to learn how to play guitar a little when he was about 4. He didn't really like it much as it hurt his very small fingers, although he would pick the guitars up and tinker around here and there.

He has always been around the Music and Film Industry as his Mother was in Management for 20 years at Lippman Entertainment as well as a couple of other management companies.

Jonnie has been in and around musicians, gigs and studios all his life, matchbox Twenty, Nelly Furtado, Terence Trent D'Arby, The Veronicas, Vik Foxx, Motley Crue and many other excellent musicians.

He became more serious around 11 years and started playing a lot and learning. He has his vision of how things should go and spends a lot of time adding his personal touch to pieces he learns. Jonnie has never really had lessons, he is self taught, as you will hear from the demo, he was born with talent to play guitar. There are many young guitarist these days that are very good and that can play very fast complex pieces. If you listen in Jonnie's Playing, you hear the soul and the small personal nuances he adds to the songs he learns.

Through his passion for music, Jonnie made a commitment to himself to become a guitarist - musician and fulfil his vision.

A few words about his playing demos.
We kept it pretty basic. He just picked some songs he wanted to play. I did ask him to put two songs together, medley style. He just worked it out and did it. We're talking minutes working out putting two songs together. One cut he put together Dust In The Wind, then went into Ozzy's Crazy Train. The other medley is a couple of Led Zepplelin tunes.

He was unbelievable in the studio and just went from track to track with only a single take for most tracks. There are no edits or overdubs.
The tones are not that good as he used his guitar I got him about 4-5 years ago and a below par Crate amp (modeling-solid state) as he is familiar with dialing in the tones he wants. I did put his amp head through my vintage Marshall Straight 4x12 cab to try to improve the tones a little. It is apparent he has outgrown his current equipment !

Jonnie, now quite a heavy style guitarist did play a lot of pop/punk in his early days and has started picking up qite a bit of classic style rock this past year.
